Eyelash extensions are ALL the rage lately. Women of all ages have become more aware of the different lash options available as their popularity has grown tremendously over the past few years!

I believe in working with a professional who can make recommendations based on your individual needs. Shannon Amin is an eyelash stylist and did an excellent job at educating me on eyelash extensions. She even let me try them out myself!

Located in Southlake, Shannon’s studio and is very warm and welcoming. On the day of my appointment, she welcomed me with champagne and a big smile. She was very professional and is an Xtreme lash expert.

I wanted to share with ya’ll what the process is like and answer the most common questions Shannon gets about eyelash extensions:

All About Eyelash Extensions

How long does the process take to get eyelash extensions?

Your first time having eyelash extensions placed will be your longest appointment but you won’t regret the time spent! Classic eyelash extensions are one single lash extension attached to your natural lash and should be around ninety minutes. Volume lash extensions are multiple lash extensions fanned and attached to your natural lash which may take two or two and a half hours. The type of look that you choose depends on how dramatic of a result you desire. After the initial set is placed, the maintenance refill visits are usually one hour or less.

Do eyelash extensions hurt?

Lash extensions should never hurt! They will feel the same as your natural lashes. The trained and experienced eyelash extension stylist (Shannon) will make certain that the length and weight of the extensions is the right match for your lashes.

Do eyelash extensions look fake?

The look of the eyelash extensions is up to you. If you want a natural look but fuller or longer, then you would choose classic lash extensions. If a bigger and bolder look is what you’re after, then you may choose volume extensions. The look is up to the person wearing them! Your stylist should get an understanding of the look you want to achieve in your initial consultation.

How long do eyelash extensions last? When should I get them filled?

Lash extensions last as long as your natural lashes when properly cared for. The lifecycle of a single eyelash is about thirty days however at two weeks most clients will be ready for a refill so that they keep the desired look and fullness.  For some three weeks is sufficient, it truly depends on the person.

How much do eyelash extensions cost?

The cost of the first full set of classic eyelash extensions is $200 and the maintenance refills are $70. For the initial full set of volumization lashes, the cost is $300 and the maintenance refill is $80.

Do eyelash extensions damage my natural lashes?

Eyelash extensions should never damage your natural lashes! A licensed and trained professional will place the correct weight and length of lash extension to your natural lash so that all you have to do is look gorgeous! When getting lash extensions for the first time do your research and ask questions! Shannon has specialty training with the Xtreme Lashes brand who is an industry leader. Their stylists are highly trained and tested and you can find an Xtreme Lash stylist near you through their website.

Can I wear mascara with my eyelash extensions?

Yes, you can wear mascara with eyelash extensions, but it should be oil free. Xtreme Lashes offers a mascara that will work best with your extensions and other brands out there do as well. Most people with eyelash extensions do not need to use mascara which is one of the great advantages! You can go work out, have a hot day in the sun or pool and still look as though you have on mascara without worrying about raccoon eyes! It is also a morning timesaver! If you do wear mascara with extensions it is best to apply only from the middle of the lash to the tip.

Can I wear eye make-up with my eyelash extensions?

You certainly can wear eye makeup! When wearing concealers, foundations or eyeliners look for oil-free products. The oil in cosmetics will break down the adhesive used to attach the eyelash extension. The rule to follow on any products used around the eyes while wearing eyelash extensions is oil-free. Xtreme offers eyeliners, concealers, and eye makeup removers, all of which are safe to keep your lashes looking their best longer!
For longer lasting lashes, brush them regularly with a spoolie, clean them with oil-free makeup remover, and dry them after they get wet with either a mini fan or your hair dryer on cool shot! If your going for a swim, work up a sweat at the gym or to your best friend’s wedding, (yes, crying is included), dry and brush them. They would look their best for much longer!
